Sustainability at the Heart of A Little Place

At A Little Place, our mission has always been simple: to create a space where people can slow down, eat well, and reconnect. What began as a traditional B&B has evolved into a boutique hotel that celebrates thoughtful hospitality, great food, and meaningful connection.

But behind the scenes, there’s another story unfolding — one of sustainability, creativity, and community.

As custodians of a 200-year-old Georgian Townhouse, we see sustainability not as a trend but as a responsibility we take great pride in upholding. Every decision we make, from the toiletries we offer to the lighting we install, is guided by care for our guests, our team, our environment, and our local community.

Within the first week of opening, we had replaced single-use plastics with refillable, handmade vegan and natural Handwash by Bel’amour by Claire Loiuse, just down the road in Durrington and we are extremely proud of our ongoing partnership.

We love partnering with local businesses. Handmade natural & vegan Handwash: Bel’amour by Claire Louise made less than 5 miles away.

Our pre-order fine dining model for group celebrations has virtually eliminated food waste, one of hospitality’s biggest hidden costs. Every ingredient is purchased to fulfil an existing order, allowing us to deliver a premium dining experience with excellent margins. We’ve also saved thousands by upcycling furniture and sourcing second-hand pieces during our restoration, ensuring full compliance with commercial fire and safety standards while preserving the character of Fairlawn House.

Almost every piece of furniture at A Little Place is bespoke, upcycled, and full of character — proof that beauty and sustainability can sit side by side.

Beyond the environmental impact, these choices have strengthened our business financially and emotionally. Guests increasingly seek values-led stays, and our sustainable practices have led to higher repeat bookings, stronger word-of-mouth referrals, and a growing community of like-minded travellers.

Looking ahead, we’re working towards achieving B Corp certification, a recognition that reflects our commitment to balancing purpose and profit. For our small, family-run team, it represents the next step in our journey to operate with integrity, transparency, and care for people and the planet.

As we continue restoring our Georgian townhouse responsibly, expanding our zero-waste dining experience, and encouraging greener travel through improved bike storage facilities and local partnerships, we’re proud to show that sustainability isn’t just part of our story — it’s the foundation of everything we do.

We believe that personal wellbeing and environmental sustainability are deeply connected. When we care for the planet, we also nurture ourselves. The calm that comes from being surrounded by natural materials, fresh air, and thoughtful design has a direct impact on how we feel. By choosing sustainable practices, from reducing waste to supporting local suppliers, we have created a space that feels balanced and restorative. It’s a reminder that living well doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense, and that true wellbeing flourishes when people and the environment thrive together.
